THE HALLOWEEN BOOMBOX: Seasonal Music To Die For Part 2
Welcome to part two of THE HALLOWEEN BOOMBOX, my ongoing series showcasing spooky tunes and scary melodies. In the last entry (seen HERE) I highlighted 22 cd releases and this installment features 23 more! If someone had told me when I first started collecting these music compilations that there would be so many I would have said that they were crazy!
This blog has been updated so that all cd covers are now clickable for easy ordering!
In part one, horror host Elvira was showcased with multiple cd releases featuring her likeness and vocal talents. This time out horror host Zacherley has three entries!
First up is ZACHERLEY’S MONSTER MASH PARTY. This cd came out in 2013 and is unfortunately no longer available, except maybe on eBay. The original LP album came out in 1962. Next up is the 1995 release of DEAD MAN’S BALL. This is actually the first release by Zacherley that I ever bought (and it is my personal favorite). I would not of even known about this cd if it hadn’t been for SCARY MONSTERS MAGAZINE issue 12, that featured a “scary sound square” of Zacherley’s song “Zach Is Back”. I hated taking that record out of the magazine but I just had to hear it and it is just one of the best Halloween-themed songs I have ever heard, especially being a fan of Zacherley. As soon as I saw that this cd was available I bought it. The tracks are (1) DEAD MAN’S BALL (2) HAPPY HOLLOWEEN (3) GRAVE ROBBING TONIGHT (4) DINNER WITH DRAC (5) COME WITH ME TO TRANSYLVANIA (6) ZACH TV AUDIO (7) FORMALDEHYDE (8) SPIDERMAN LULLABYE (9) ZACH TV AUDIO (10) DOC FRANKENSTEIN (11) ETERNAL POLYESTER (12) ZACH TV AUDIO (13) WEREWOLF BITE ME (14) ZACH TV AUDIO (15) COOLEST LITTLE MONSTER (16) ZACH TV AUDIO (17) ZACH IS BACK (18) ZACH
In 2005 INTERMENT FOR TWO was released on cd. This release is a follow-up to DEAD MAN’S BALL and is a celebration of John Zacherle’s entire career and features many rare clips. (1) DEAD-ICATION (2) INTERMENT FOR TWO (3) ZOMBIE ZOO (4) DEAR VALENTINE (5) VINTAGE ZACH RADIO AD 1967 (6) SATAN’S COUNTRY LINE DANCE (7) RENFIELD LAUGH (8) A WICKED THOUGHT (9) VINTAGE ZACH RADIO AD 1967 (10) FRANKENSTEIN’S DEN (11) ISOBEL (12) MONSTER BLUES (13) VINTAGE ZACH RADIO AD 1967 (14) SATAN’S COUNTRY LINE DANCE W/HOEDOWN (15) HERCULES COMMERCIAL LOOP 1963 (16) VINTAGE ZACH RADIO AD 1967 (17) STEVE ALLEN VISITS 1963 (18) VINTAGE ZACH RADIO AD 1967 (19) MISSING MONSTER 1958 (20) VINTAGE ZACH RADIO AD 1967 (21) DIRTY DANUBE

Occasionally copies do appear on eBay and they are alot of fun and include tracks found no where else. Volume 2 (featuring exactly the same cover as Volume 1 except for red lettering and the “VOL.2 in the lower corner of the cover) features 27 tracks and like Volume 1, features stuff not found anywhere else. Both of these discs, in my opinion, can be played from beginning to end to the enjoyment of your Halloween party guests. (1) THE CREEPER by Jerry Wald (2) WHAT KIND OF GHOUL AM I by Frankie Stein (3) THE CHILLER by Googie Rene (4) THE THING by Curtis and The Creepers (5) DOOMSDAY by Zen Fuller (6) THE LURCH by Ted Cassidy (7) VAMPIRE by The Crystals (8) IGOR’S LAMENT by Tony and The Monstrosities (9) CHA-CHA WITH THE ZOMBIES by The Upperclassmen (10) THE BOOGIE MAN by The Cadillacs (11) DEAD by The Poets (12) TOMBSTONE NO. 9 by Murray Schaff (13) HINDU ON A HONDA by Count Down and The Moonsters (14) THE MAD SCIENTIST by The ZaNies (15) THE BLOB by The Five Blobs (16) THE GOO GOO MUCK by Ronnie Cook (17) MONSTER SURFING TIME by The Deadly Ones (18) MUMMY’S LITTLE MONSTER by Frankie Stein (19) FRANKIE AND IGOR AT A ROCK ‘N’ ROLL PARTY by Bob McFadden (20) MUNSTER CREEP by The Munsters (21) WEIRD WATUSI by John Zacherley (22) SURFER SMASH by Johnn “Boris” Jones (23) IGOR’S CHANT (PART 1) by Ziggy Gee (24) LAUGHING OVER MY GRAVE by Ray Stevens (25) MONSTER JERK by Don Hinson and the Rigamorticians (26) MONSTER MASH PARTY by Bobby “Boris” Pickett (27) MONSTER MASH by Bobby “Boris” Pickett
Next up is also the first of a two-disc set, this time imported from Germany, and both featuring beautifully painted covers. MONSTER BOP came out in 1993 and features 30 tracks, many very hard to obtain! This is another one of those discs you can listen to beginning to end and enjoy totally! This disc, HORROR HOP, released a year later in 1994, features one of my favorite CD covers. The beautifully painted image of the demon from the 1957 film CURSE OF THE DEMON reminds me of those amazing covers of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND done by Basil Gogos! This collection, featuring 31 tracks, also includes many songs found no where else and is alot of fun to listen to beginning to end! The track listing on this collection is (1) BO DIDDLE IN THE JUNGLE by Tommy King (2) THE BIRDS by The Motivations (3) DRY BONES TWIST by The Drivers (4) AT THE HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN by Big Bee Kornegay (5) SHE’S MY WITCH by Kip Tyler (6) NIGHT MARE by Billy Sills (7) FOO MAN CHOO by The Revels (8) THE ZOO by Mickey Lee Lane (9) THE MUMMY’S BRACELET by Lee Ross (10) MONSTER HOLIDAY by Lon Chaney (11) THE MONSTER by Evans Carroll (12) TEENAGE CREATURE by Lord Luther (13) SHUDDERS AND SCREAMS by Ben Colder (14) SCREAMIN’ BALL by The Duponts (15) THE MORTAL MONSTER MAN by The Savoys (16) MIDNIGHT STROLL by The Revells (17) IGOR’S PARTY by Tonys Monstrosities (18) BLACK WIDOW SPIDER WOMAN by Jack Hammer (19) MAD WITCH by Dave Gardner (20) NIGHT MARES by John Sowell (21) VAMPIRA by Bobby Bare (22) VOO DOO WOMAN by Smiley Smith (23) GRAVEYARD ROCK by Tarantula Ghoul (24) WEREWOLF by The Frantics (25) WOMBIE ZOMBIE by Billy Taylor (26) BIG CHIEF BUFFALO NICKEL by Macey Ross (27) JUNGLE HOP by Kip Taylor (28) MOON MADNES by Pasquale & The Lunar-Tiks (29) WEREWOLF by Gary Warren (30) CREATURE FROM OUTER SPACE by Sonny Day and (31) AMAZON by Phil Carter.
This 2009 release, THE ULTIMATE ROCKIN’ HALLOWEEN PARTY, is an import from the United Kingdom. This collection features 20 tracks, all by original artists and many once again, not found anywhere else. This is one of my favorite cds to listen to in the car while driving during the Halloween season. THESE GHOULISH THINGS (HORROR HITS FOR HALLOWE’EN) is an import from London that came out in 2005. This compilation features 28 tracks, some of which are original radio plugs done by Bobby “Boris” Pickett. Though this collection features tracks found on some of the other cd’s I have discussed, this is still a great cd to have in your collection! This import, MONSTER HALLOWEEN HITS, if you can find it, is a great starter collection. This was released on Virgin Records in October of 2010 in the United Kingdom (why nobody releases great compilations like this in the United States I will never know). It features a wide range of music and I believe it is the only compilation that features both Michael Jackson and Iron Maiden! There are 67 tracks in all, featuring a lot not available anywhere else. I cannot recommend this set enough! I am a little confused though by the inclusion of the Backstreet Boys’ “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”!

This next collection is another Rhino release from 2000 called BRAIN IN A BOX: THE SCIENCE FICTION COLLECTION. Leave it to a company like Rhino to come up with a 5 disc boxed set like this. This is one of the BEST ideas for a boxed set I have ever seen! The metal box is 7″ x 7″ x 7″ and on three sides is the holographic image of a brain…a brain in a box! The top and bottom of the box features the images of switches and gauges and on the back is the track listings of all five discs. I cannot recommend this set enough, if you can find it! New copies cost over $150 on Amazon though used copies can be found for about $50 (and it is worth it). One thing to remember about Rhino is that they always use original artists on their discs and though this is a science fiction-themed collection, many of the tracks can be used for your Halloween party as well. As an added bonus is a hard cover book called BRAIN IN A BOOK that is 200 pages long that not only discusses the songs in this collection but also the movies that influenced them! Have I mentioned how much I love this collection? To show you how good this set is, here is the complete track listing of all 5 discs!
