THE BASEMENT TOY BOX: NECA’s “Annabelle Comes Home”

I don’t normally buy toys any more. There are a couple of reasons. First off, lack of space. Second, limited funds. Once in awhile though a toy comes out that just blows me away. “Annabelle Comes Home” by NECA was one of these purchases. During a recent visit to Maine I saw this figure for the first time in a comic book store and fell in love with it.

Anyone familiar with THE CONJURING and ANNABELLE movies knows who this is. The original haunted doll was investigated by demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. The actual doll was a Raggedy Ann doll and to this day is displayed in a locked glass case in the basement of the Warren’s home. For the movies though, the doll was modified. Apparently producers thought a Raggedy Ann doll was just not terrifying enough.

The new design worked perfectly in the film, especially when the facial features would change subtlety. The most accurate aspect of this doll from “real” life was the display case. This case does in fact look pretty accurate to the one the Warrens used.

NECA’s “Annabelle Comes Home” was sculpted by artist Jason Frailey and the set includes two additional heads. I am guessing this is to freak out unaware friends and family. Every time they look at this toy, the head can have a different expression. The figure also features a real cloth dress, just like from the movie.

My favorite part of the set is actually the display case. This meticulously recreates the one in the movie and is a perfect way to display your Annabelle. It also comes with the “Warning: Positively Do Not Open” sign as well as the “Miss Me?” card. No detail was overlooked in this amazing set. Annabelle stands 6″ tall and can be displayed in or outside of the case.
