2021 has been the year of alien masks for me. As I may have mentioned before, I am starting to streamline my mask collecting to focus on two types of masks; werewolves and aliens. So far this year I have reviewed three masks of this type and now I introduce the fourth, the UFO Alien Encounter mask by DejaBoo Halloween, an artist I found on Etsy.
One thing I have found in the past is that until you establish a relationship with a mask company or artist, you may be taking a chance with your first purchase. Though this doesn’t happen as much now as it did in the late 1990s, there were times that what you received looked a lot different than what was advertised. One thing I can assure you though is that DejaBoo Halloween is not one of these companies.
Etsy is a great place to find latex masks by private artists and I have seen some amazing things on there. The UFO Alien Encounter mask really stood out to me and thought it would be a great addition to my collection of alien masks. When it arrived I was thrilled. Nothing beats the smell of opening a box with a new mask inside. The fresh latex is an odor you will never forget and it will forever be associated to the memory of getting a new mask.
The first thing I noticed was the weight of the mask. This is a thick latex pour, not often found in mass-produced Halloween masks. The sculpture is absolutely amazing with a lot of subtle details, adding so much to the character. The paint work is also fantastic. The subtle shading and creases are beautifully done and the high gloss eyes add a lot of depth to the UFO Encounter Alien mask.
The photos in this blog are of the actual mask I received, looking at least as good as the photos in DejaBoo Halloween’s Etsy store. You can buy with confidence from this artist and this collector highly recommends DejaBoo Halloween. In addition to the Etsy store, you can also visit the Deja Boo website and the Deja Boo YouTube Channel. As an added bonus, if you use the promotion code SCARESHARE at checkout, you will get 10% off!
