THE BASEMENT’S TIMELESS TELEVISION: Far Out Space Nuts (1975-1976)

FAR OUT SPACE NUTS is a Sid and Marty Krofft children’s television series that aired in 1975 for one season, and produced 15 episodes. It was one of only two Krofft series produced exclusively for CBS (the second being 1984’s PRYOR’S PLACE). Reruns of the show aired in daily syndication from 1978 to 1985 as part of the KROFFT SUPERSTARS package with six other Krofft series.

THE BASEMENT’S TIMELESS TELEVISION (SPECIAL EDITION): My Favorite Doctor Who Aliens

The first time I became exposed to Doctor Who was in the seventies, with Tom Baker. It would be shown for a short period of time in the afternoons after school. To be honest, maybe it was my age at the time, I had a very difficult time getting into it. For me the show was kind of forgettable, and that’s what I did. Fast forward to 2005, with the return of the series with the ninth doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston. I heard nothing but good things about it and decided to give it another try. I quickly became hooked with the return of this series and have binge-watched right up until the twelfth doctor, played by Peter Capaldi.

THE BASEMENT’S TIMELESS TELEVISION: Land of the Lost (1974-1976)

I often think of the highlights of my childhood and sometimes I feel bad for the kids growing up today. Back in the 70’s, before the introduction of cable television, we had Saturday morning cartoons on the three major networks (as well as cartoons every morning and afternoon on the UHF stations). Saturday morning cartoons were promoted by the major networks as strongly as their nightly programming and toy companies advertised them to the hilt with their latest offerings. I remember each new season making myself a schedule of what I would be watching each hour and on what network. Times were good.
