BASEMENT BOOKSHELF: Cryptid Culture Magazine by Blurb

“Cryptid Culture” magazine was a short-lived publication the debuted in 2015, with the eighth and final issue published in March of 2018. Each issue features investigations by noted cryptozoologists as well as artists who like to specialize in cryptid paintings, drawings, and stories. “Cryptid Culture” magazine is a print on demand publication based on Long Island, NY. The idea for this magazine began in early 2015 when Brian Richardson, founder and designer for Mythic Articulations, came up with the idea of an art magazine that could gather all of the ‘cryptid art’ and artists he was discovering through his company.

One of the highlights of this magazine is the incredible artwork, realized by such artists as Britt Martin and Sam Shearon. Though now cancelled, this magazine is well-worth having. Authors such as Loren Coleman, Linda Godfrey, and Ken Gerhard fill each issue with everything you could want to know about the subjects presented. Whether you are a believer or not, “Cryptid Culture” is an original type of publication, that while serious in its nature, it is also a lot of fun.
It’s truly a shame that this magazine is no longer in print. I think it’s style is perfect, especially for young teens that may have an interest in cryptozoology. It provides a wealth of information on a wide variety of cryptid topics. Thankfully the 8-issue run is still available from Blurb. To check out the back issues all you need to do it click HERE!
