As I continue talking about the upcoming film, PORTAL TO THE ABYSS, I would like to introduce UK Scream Queen, Dani Thompson. Though she has been very busy lately, she was kind enough to take some time to talk to me about her career.
BASEMENT: What started you in acting?
DANI: I was offered a tiny part in a film while I was still modelling and realized I loved being on set and was also ready for a career change, something that was more of a challenge than modelling so went and did a two-week summer course at a drama school and then ended up auditioning for a year’s full-time course in screen acting.
BASEMENT: What were your influences growing up?
DANI: I always loved horror, films like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend, The Craft, Final Destination, all of that late 90’s/early 00’s era stuff and TV shows like Buffy and Angel so I think if I was to ever have thought about going in to acting then I would always have wanted to do horror.
BASEMENT: What are your favorite types of roles to play?
DANI: I love playing really strong characters, baddies are fun.
BASEMENT: Which do you prefer, modeling or acting?
DANI: I like both, I like mixing it up.
BASEMENT: What types of movies do you watch?
DANI: Horror always, good slashers are my favorite.
BASEMENT: What drew you to PORTAL TO THE ABYSS?
DANI: It’s a different character for me, still strong but uptight and stuffy.
BASEMENT: Can you tell us what your character is like?
DANI: I covered that in the last question ha-ha
BASEMENT: Can you tell us about some of your other roles?
DANI: There have been so many, I think one that stands to mind is Deetz in Banjo and Eating Miss Campbell, she was strong and super fun to play, I’m hoping I get to reprise that role. Another is Chloe in Powertool Cheerleaders, I wasn’t in that much, but I think the character makes an impact and of course Paula Valentine who had spanned I Scream on the Beach, Mosaic and Videoshop Tales of Terror where I play Paula playing various characters in Egghead, Verguessen, Burnt Children and Fleurs Du Mal and even cameo in Mary Whitechouse.
BASEMENT: Do you have any advice for someone wanting to do what you are doing?
DANI: Get as much experience as you can and learn your craft.
BASEMENT: Where can people find you online (social media sites, IMDB, etc.)?
Twitter @missdanaiteeze2 – my original one got hacked.
I want to thank everyone working on this film that has taken the time to talk to me! I still have one interview to go…stay tuned!
