Don’t fall asleep and keep your eyes fixed on the stars this Saturday, October 17, as MeTV delivers an unbeatable, cosmic sci-fi double feature back-to-back!
The night of interplanetary paranoia begins at 8P | 7C when Svengoolie presents Don Siegel’s 1956 sci-fi horror masterpiece, Invasion of the Body Snatchers! Kevin McCarthy stars as Dr. Miles Bennell, a small-town physician who discovers that his neighbors are being quietly replaced by emotionless alien duplicates grown from mysterious seed pods. Serving as a landmark allegory for 1950s Cold War anxiety, this film remains an absolute tour-de-force of escalating dread, leading to one of the most chilling, frantic street warnings in movie history. Sven will be on guard to make sure nobody gets podded, delivering vegetable-themed puns, fascinating production trivia, and an unsprouting volley of flying rubber chickens!
Then, rocket straight into deep space as the House of Svengoolie continues the marathon with Universal’s 1955 Technicolor space epic, This Island Earth! Starring Rex Reason, Faith Domergue, and Jeff Morrow as the towering alien Exeter, this dazzling interplanetary adventure follows top Earth scientists recruited under mysterious pretenses to save the dying, war-torn world of Metaluna. Renowned for its eye-popping visual effects, gorgeous futuristic laboratory sets, and the iconic, bug-eyed Metaluna Mutant, it stands as one of the quintessential grand sci-fi adventures of the 1950s. The Sven Squad will man the interocitor with out-of-this-world wisecracks, vintage studio history, and an asteroid belt of rubber poultry!
From sinister pods to atomic planetary wars, this is a sci-fi showcase you dare not miss! Tune in to MeTV tonight, October 17, starting at 8P | 7C, for a double dose of vintage extraterrestrial thrills!
