At the end of 2024, one of the most anticipated props from Trick or Treat Studios was finally released. I believe these were originally advertised for the 2023 Halloween season. But, they became available just before Christmas of 2024. I will say this though, it was worth the wait! I am of course talking about Gremlins 2: The New Batch Deluxe Gizmo Mogwai Prop.
Gremlins props are nothing new from Trick or Treat Studios. In the past, they have offered 10″ tall Gizmo and Stripe puppets. They also provided 28″ tall puppets of the evil Gremlins. This year’s releases are 1:1 scale and are the best ever offered.
A lot of work went into this prop. First off, I like the decision not to use latex. The plastic used will last much longer. The body is foam and there is a wire skeleton that allows for Gizmo to be posed. The arms and legs move well though to me, the ears seem a little too stiff to pose much. The fur is screen-accurate and Gizmo just looks great.
One of my favorite aspects are the eyes, which are inserts as opposed to being painted onto the plastic face. These eyes look amazing and show light just like real eyes do. This adds some believability to the character, which is a huge step up from the original puppets.
Another great detail is in the toenails and fingernails. These little details add so much to this prop. The display box looks great and makes a great shelf display in case you don’t want to take Gizmo out. Artist Russ Lukich did a great job on Gizmo. He also excelled at creating the other Gremlins props at Trick or Treat Studios.
Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, Gizmo is sold out from most distributors. He can be found on eBay, commanding higher than retail prices. I am hoping that Trick or Treat Studios can bring more back for the 2025 season.
