It’s fascinating how many of my childhood interests have remained with me. While some resurfaced after years, many have been constants. Take UFOs, now UAPs – they’ve always captivated me. I devoured every book and magazine I would find as a kid. Though dedicated UFO magazines seem to have vanished, my book-reading on the subject continues.

I have fond memories of those 70s and 80s UFO magazines and have recently been searching for back issues. There were so many titles, some serious, others more sensational, but I enjoyed them all. An eBay purchase surprised me with a treasure. I found “The Official Guide to UFOs,” a 1968 publication from Science & Mechanics Publishing Co.

This scarcer, more serious magazine delves into UFO flight theories, scientific study, and historical accounts dating back to 1239 A.D. It even features “an illustrated dictionary of UFO sightings — taken directly from ‘Project Blue Book’ — U.S. Air Force,” detailing twelve mysterious 1960s sightings, including the Ithaca and Wanaque, NJ incidents. Later released as a paperback, I found it surprisingly insightful even today. The information holds up, presented without taking itself too seriously. Despite its age, it’s a fantastic introduction to the UFO topic, even for newcomers. It’s remarkable how relevant this decades-old information remains.

This magazine was later released as a paperback book.

I found this to be a sound read, even after all of these years. The information is accurate and it is thankfully presented in a tongue-in-cheek way. This magazine may be 54 years old, but it is a great introduction to the subject. It is excellent for people just becoming interested in the UFO topic. It’s is nice to see that information from so long ago is still valid today.

Adding to the fun are the vintage ads, always a favorite of mine in old comics and magazines. They offer a glimpse into the past, showcasing popular items of the time. Oh, to have some of those things now! If you’re into UFOs, this magazine is a must-have for any collection. I’m thrilled I received it.
